It is with great sadness that I'm writing to tell everyone that the 3rd Annual Redford Union HS Alumni Faceoff is cancelled this year. After receiving 36 and 33 alumni athletes for the 2011 and 2012 soccer games, respectively, just 15 of 68+ alumni athletes (who were asked multiple times) actually followed through by registering to participate for the June 14 contest at Hilbert's Kraft Field. I've held out for as long as possible, but I have to make this call now.
There was a suggestion to try and hold the game in the fall 2013 (perhaps in conjunction with the five-year anniversary of Mitch Butler's death in October), but whether or not to hold it in June 2014 is still in question after the very flat response I received this year from a normally supportive group of alumni athletes. About the Event:
This is a co-ed soccer game featuring Alumni from the 1990s and 2000s
We a...re looking at the long-term with Alumni Face-Off and through sports we are hoping to raise money to give back to the schools we all attended throughout our lives.
Through gate entry, sponsorship, donation and participation fees we can make a difference. We are putting an emphasis on the STUDENT-ATHLETE. Without education, there is not much future in sports. Money raised will benefit both athletics and academics at Redford Union.
This is the end of the sports year celebration for current Redford Union student-athletes and the very second-annual athletic reunion for all alumni, regardless of their athletic participation in high school. It is a celebration of past and present under the lights at Hilbert's Kraft Field. Mark your calendars and bring your friends and family. |
